Supervisor/Teacher
Hello, I am the educational Supervisor at our Streamstown location and the Vice President of the board.
I grew up on a small grain farm in rural Saskatchewan and have been involved in the oilfield all my life. Upon graduating high school, I attended Lakeland College in Vermilion and obtained my Environmental Conservation and Reclamation diploma. For 8 years I worked as an Environmental Technician, completing various assessments across Alberta and Saskatchewan.
I began and ended my environmental career as an employee, however, in that time span, I also did contract work as an environmentalist and as an administrative support staff for an oilfield company. Nineteen years ago, I incorporated an environmental company for contact work, of which my husband now currently runs.
I have been a full time stay at home mom since becoming a mother of two (ages 15 and 12), but have kept myself busy over the years being involved on numerous boards and committees within my community, and volunteering at church, my children’s schools and their extracurricular activities.
In 2019, like many other parents, I found myself homeschooling. I had actually felt called to homeschool my children earlier and had talked myself out of it, but now felt the opportunity to jump right in! I’m not going to lie, it was challenging, but also so rewarding and enjoyable. My own personal love of learning was rekindled and I got to share that with my family. Unfortunately, not everyone shared my enthusiasm. When the opportunity came to take part in the founding of Shine Academy, I jumped right in; seeing it as a great fit for everyone in my family.
During the first school year at Shine, I was blessed to help in the classroom regularly and act in the position of substitute staff. In our second year, I had joined the team as full time staff. It has been such a joy to see all of the students growing academically, socially, emotionally, physically (they have all been growing like weeds), and spiritually.
Growing up, I was involved in both the Boys Scouts and Girl Guides organizations for many years and have attended outdoor survival camps and various jamborees. Other interests and hobbies throughout the years have included: boxing, track and field, gardening, hiking, camping, reading, and puzzles. I look forward to sharing my knowledge, skills, gifts and talents with the students at Shine, and also learning about them and how to encourage them in their own personal growth.
