Supervisor/Teacher

Hello I am Bonnie Scherger and I am so pleased to be a part of the Shine Christian Academy Staff and will be returning for my second year as the Streamstown lead teacher. I began teaching at the Shine Christian Academy in the fall of 2023 leading the students in gym class, novel studies, small group instruction in Math, English and Life Skills while contributing to the overall well being of the students in a faith based environment.
I grew up in a Christian family in rural Saskatchewan on a mixed farm and the rural roots of the prairie provinces are very dear to me. Lloydminster has been our home for over 28 years where my husband, Jody and I have raised our three adult daughters. Together we have also run a family business with the support of the community of Lloydminster and with our daughters contributing to our success. I have my Education Degree from the University of Alberta and feel blessed to have raised our family while teaching part time throughout my career.
In my free time I love to read, go for walks, gardening and canning the produce but most importantly spending time at our family’s cabin going fishing, boating or golfing. It is our family’s favorite spot throughout the year enjoying each season in nature.
I love teaching the students at Shine and look forward to meeting your children and helping them grow and achieve their personal best in their education and relationship with God. My passion to give the students the tools they need to be successful in and out of the classroom is what I hope to do each day I spend with your child.
Shine is a special place to be, with an incredible board and staff of dedicated and passionate individuals led by the Lord’s guidance.
Supervisor/Teacher - Kindergarten & Grade 1

My post secondary credentials are as follows: Early Years Education completed in South Africa, Addictionology and Community Health completed in Calgary, EMDR - currently and the Lead member for peer support mental health.
I became a teacher here at Shine Christian Academy because I believe in the importance of a Christ centered education for children. I am passionate about my role in being able to provide a Christian based education for children just as my own who also attend the wonderful school.
I am passionate about people.
Much love
Monitor/Learning Center Assistant

Hello, I am the educational monitor (Supervisors assistant) at our Streamstown location and the Vice President of the board.
I grew up on a small grain farm in rural Saskatchewan and have been involved in the oilfield all my life. Upon graduating high school, I attended Lakeland College in Vermilion and obtained my Environmental Conservation and Reclamation diploma. For 8 years I worked as an Environmental Technician, completing various assessments across Alberta and Saskatchewan.
I began and ended my environmental career as an employee, however, in that time span, I also did contract work as an environmentalist and as an administrative support staff for an oilfield company. Nineteen years ago, I incorporated an environmental company for contact work, of which my husband now currently runs.
I have been a full time stay at home mom since becoming a mother of two (ages 15 and 12), but have kept myself busy over the years being involved on numerous boards and committees within my community, and volunteering at church, my children’s schools and their extracurricular activities.
In 2019, like many other parents, I found myself homeschooling. I had actually felt called to homeschool my children earlier and had talked myself out of it, but now felt the opportunity to jump right in! I’m not going to lie, it was challenging, but also so rewarding and enjoyable. My own personal love of learning was rekindled and I got to share that with my family. Unfortunately, not everyone shared my enthusiasm. When the opportunity came to take part in the founding of Shine Academy, I jumped right in; seeing it as a great fit for everyone in my family.
During the first school year at Shine, I was blessed to help in the classroom regularly and act in the position of substitute staff. In our second year, I had joined the team as full time staff. It has been such a joy to see all of the students growing academically, socially, emotionally, physically (they have all been growing like weeds), and spiritually.
Growing up, I was involved in both the Boys Scouts and Girl Guides organizations for many years and have attended outdoor survival camps and various jamborees. Other interests and hobbies throughout the years have included: boxing, track and field, gardening, hiking, camping, reading, and puzzles. I look forward to sharing my knowledge, skills, gifts and talents with the students at Shine, and also learning about them and how to encourage them in their own personal growth.
Monitor/Learning Center Assistant

Hi! I am Hanna Berndt and I am so excited to be continuing as the Learning Centre Assistant for my second year at Shine!
I grew up in the Marwayne/Kitscoty area and graduated from Kitscoty High School in 2023. Growing up, I figure skated, played competitive volleyball, badminton and enjoyed volunteering in my leadership classes. I have worked at The Proper, a local restaurant in Lloydminster, for just over 2 years now. I absolutely love people and enjoy serving and making people happy. Working at The Proper has made me recognize the importance of supporting small organizations and the significance of family support. I enjoy road trips, concerts, the lake, golf and being with family and friends.
My first year at Shine was incredibly heartwarming to say the least. I enjoyed watching the students learn through honesty, personal responsibility and achieving goals that they thought were impossible. I am pleased to be joining Shine again this Fall and I am excited to watch the students grow academically and spiritually. I am also super excited to be the lead in our Home Ec course this year!
